I have been so confused about what american recipes mean by 'tomato paste' so I looked it up and as far as I understand:
Tomato paste = tomato puree
Crushed tomatoes = passata/ chopped tinned tomatoes, drained (and squashed/mashed)
Tomato sauce = pasta sauce
